We wanted to show you some more gorgeous photos from Kathryn and Lynn’s photo shoot together.
Kathryn was getting married in just a few short weeks after this shoot and she wanted to have a celebratory girly photo session with her sister-in-law Lynn. These two amazing ladies have known each other since their early teens and they feel like they are practically real sisters. The day was filled with love, laughter, friendship and anticipation for the upcoming wedding celebrations, so we caught these two at the prefect time.
It was such an honor to have them in our studio and share in the fun. We had a wonderful day and we feel we captured the sisterly love and friendship between them.
Thanks again Kathryn and Lynn for letting us capture the excitement, we laughed and cheered a long with you. x
Thank you to the amazing Kathy Tengono and Dawn Subhasiriwatana for your fantastic hair and makeup work, both girls were really pleased with their looks!
If you have any questions for Kathy or Dawn, or you want to book them for hair and makeup styling, Here is their info:
Kathryn booked a session at our studio as part of the celebration of her Bachelorette Party weekend. At the time of the photo shoot, she was getting married in a month and wanted something special to commemorate the occasion.
So she booked the day with her Sister-in-Law Lynn because she rarely gets to spend quality time with her. They both loved the idea of being pampered with full hair and makeup and of course, the chocolates and champagne!
As the day unfolded we learned about Kathryn’s passion for running, her family, and love. Kathryn told us how she overcame great obstacles to get fit and turn a disease into a positive change in her life.
In Kathryn’s story we highlight the things that mean the most to her: her wedding day, running, her husband, and her family. We hope you enjoy Kathryn’s personal story and feel the emotions we all felt as we enjoyed a day at SchlickArt Studios
Congratulations to Kathryn and Matt you are truly beautiful couple. xoxox

Today we are talking about Workshops at YogaWorks Valencia and to help get a better understanding of there programs I interviewed Angelli Robison and Toni Kuhn…
~ What are Workshops and why do YogaWorks offer them?
Workshops are a unique opportunity that YogaWorks offers to focus on a specific niche within the yoga world. Whether it is a style of yoga, a specific pose you want to improve; or a workshop devoted to helping people with pre existing conditions. Our workshops are a usually longer than our regular classes, as you are there not just to practice yoga the whole time, but you are there to learn, deepen your knowledge and get a better understanding of the workshops specific niche. It is also a great place to come and ask questions and feel clearer about your practice, which you might not be able to do in a typical class setting. It is a more personal experience.
We offer these workshops so that students who want to know more about a certain practice or style of yoga can deepen their knowledge, ask questions and become better informed in a more personalized setting.
The workshops are also great because they are open to the public and they help to encourage students who are more hesitant towards the practice, or hesitant to try out the studio. They give these student a chance to come in and enjoy the program, get a feel for it and the environment without any pressure to purchase a membership or carry on with the practice long term if they don’t enjoy it.
~ Who are the workshops for?
The workshops are for everyone, all are welcome. They are open to the public, we accept members and non members who just want to come and learn more about a specific practice. We advertise these workshops everywhere to gain awareness for them hoping that no one will miss out.
~ Who teaches them?
The workshops are lead by our fully trained YogaWorks experienced teachers, all of our teachers have to have at least 500 hours training at our School of Yoga to teach here.
We did a previous 1 day workshop on Yoga for Arthritis and it was a huge success. Students were asking for more and wanted an even more in depth session, to help gain more knowledge. So this time we are breaking it down into 4 days with different focus points in each class, so you can come and attend all of them or you can come and attend the one that meets your needs.
The great thing about this class is the educational materials for this workshop are all sponsored by The Arthritis Foundation and they are giving away great gifts and helpful goodies to all who attend.
Price:$45 per person early | $55 per person day of
~ The ancient yogis may have hung from trees and used vines to suspend themselves. We are so fortunate to have a state of the art ropes wall from which to grow our poses. The standing poses are the foundation of a strong practice and knowing them is a gateway to all poses. We will move through the standing poses using various rope techniques and taste forward bends, back bends and inversions. With the ropes we gain

Ohhh boy! You guys are going to want to see this video… but you are going to have to wait… because it’s coming soon… Stay tuned!
As many of you know during the month of February and in to early March we contributed to the #30daysoffilm project, created by photographer Sue Bryce and Film Maker Hailey Bartholomew
We did our best to shoot video everyday for 30 days, and although we were not completely successful with the schedule, we did capture some great moments over the 30 days to make our video blossom.
With this challenge we decided it would be a good learning curve for Lindsay to learn to shoot some video; try something new and pull her even further out of her comfort zone. Lindsay did not shoot the whole video, we worked together on this project and created something very different from our usual routine.
But the insight it brought for Lindsay was awesome and she is a lot more confident now in this genre!
We love the little video we created together and we think it gives you a glimpse into who we are…
We are proud to present “Our Little World” Please enjoy!
As many of you know SchlickArt has teamed up with YogaWorks Valencia, to bring you blogs with great information about yoga, its benefits; and what amazing health, mind and fitness results you could achieve through joining a facility such as YogaWorks Valencia. To see old posts from YogaWorks click on the links at the bottom of this post.
Today, in this interview, we are talking about YogaWorks Specialty Classes:
~ What are specialty classes?
“Here at YogaWorks Valencia we offer 4 different types of specialty classes on our schedule, that are open to all our members. These classes are different than our other yoga classes as they concentrate on a specific niche; whether that be concentrating on a part of the body, or a genre of yoga. Our teachers also have to have taken extra training to teach these classes, as they are very in depth studies and tailored to our members wants and needs.”
~ How are these classes different from your other yoga classes?
“Our regular yoga classes are all different depending on our instructors styles and backgrounds. You are going to get a very diverse range of postures and poses throughout those classes as our teachers have a lot of freedom to teach what they want; and they want to make sure they cover a lot to keep their students happy, motivated and enjoying the variation.
Our specialty classes however are a lot more ‘specialized!’ They were created specifically to help people with injuries, ailments, aches, pains, stress and anxiety… They were created with a high level of understanding of the human anatomy and the functionality of the body, to help our students improve and heel. All these classes also focus heavily on the breath, which is called Pranayama. Pranayama is the breath work you do in yoga. So all of our specialty classes are a lot more slower paced than our regular yoga classes, they are very gentle and they really emphasize Pranayama to allow you to open up the body in a gentle, safe way. Which is what you need to heel injuries, let aches and pains subside; and to help with stress and anxiety.
In a specialty class you will also utilize a lot of our props to assist you through the class in a gentle and safe way. Props such as straps, blocks, bolsters and blankets will help you get comfortably in and out of postures and encourage you to practice proper form, this will help your body heel all the more.”
~What are the positive effects of these classes?
“The effects of these classes are that they really help restore the body, you are opening the body in a safe and gentle way, while also reviving it with energy.
For instance if you have had a long work day and you go to a restorative specialty class, it will help you open up your shoulders after sitting sedentary and/or slumped in an office chair. These classes are meant to help you counteract your bodies bad posture tendencies and bring you back to a more aligned healthful state.
By doing this, you can help avoid the injuries, aches and pains that can occur from bad postures and sedentary lifestyles; and leave you feeling more flexible, healthy and pain free.
These classes are also here to help you relieve previous injuries too…
All these classes are also great for heeling. Whether you are dealing with lower back pain, or going through chemo therapy, going through physical therapy or even stress related pain; they really help you rest and be gentle on your body, while you strengthen and increase your flexibility.
Another thing that makes all these classes so wonderful is there is always time in the class for modifications. So depending on the extent of your injury or level of flexibility; if something does not feel quite right in a pose, you have plenty of time to talk with the teacher and modify each pose to your needs.
All the positive effects are endless.”
~ What are each of the specialty classes called and what are their individual attributes?
“Gentle Yoga: Postures are presented in an easy to follow, accessible manner with plenty of time for modifications. Deeply relaxing, Gentle Yoga may include breath work and guided meditation.
Relax Deeply: Bring recuperation to your organs, nervous system and consciousness. Long supported holds soothe the mind and encourage an inward focus.
Therapeutics and Therapeutics/Back: This class seeks to provide relief from pain, and support optimal functioning of joints, muscles and organs. Gentle and subtle.
Restorative: These Iyengar classes revitalize the body by increasing circulation to the organs and calming the nervous system. Props are often used to enable a longer respite in the pose.”
YogaWorks has been kind enough to give us three restorative poses we can all try at home. They include brief descriptions on how to perform them… Enjoy:
Supported Balasana (Childspose)
The bolster should be pressing right in under the belly, close to the pubic bone, so you are fully supported. Place an extra blanket on the bolster if needed. The head often appreciates a little support from a towel too. Practice for about 2 minutes with the head each side (4 minutes total). Or, if the head does not like being turned, place the hands on the bolster and rest the head on the hands, looking down.
Viparita Karani (Supported Legs up the Wall)
Place a bolster alongside a wall, a couple of inches out, and sit sideways on the bolster. Swing the legs up the wall and shuffle in so the buttocks are fairly close to the wall. The legs can be comfortably apart for this version. If the lower back is sensitive, you may like to practice the simpler ‘Legs Up The Wall Pose’, without the bolster under the hips. If you are very tight in the back of the legs, come off the bolster and allow the buttocks to move away from the wall, so the legs will be at an angle. Stay for 5 to 15 minutes
Savasana with Leg Support (Corpse Pose)
While seated with your legs long in front of you and just a bit apart, roll up a blanket and place under your knees. Lie down on your back, allowing your legs to separate with your feet about hip-distance apart and your arms to relax on either side of you. Breathe here for at least 20 deep breaths or as long as you like.

1. Lisa Tell us a bit about yourself!
I’m all about women-empowerment, from the inside out. But I’m really no different than any other woman and I’m not afraid to admit it. I’m insecure about my body, though I love to eat; I love the feeling of exercising (once I’m done) but always seem to forget that when deciding if I should go to the gym; I want to be loved but don’t always love myself; I come from a strict upbringing so of course I’m a little out there; and lastly, I want to be a good girl, but girls night out are no fun without a little mischief
As a bit of background though, I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA as a first-generation Egyptian-American. My family, as most immigrant families do, stressed education, education, education. So, I did the ‘proper’ thing and went all the way – meaning, got my undergraduate degree in Finance from CSULB, worked in banking, then got my MBA in Entrepreneurship from Pepperdine, then got a proper MBA job in management consulting. I figured, I’m doing all the ‘right’ things, so I should have enough money once I’ve built my career to retire early, then pursue the things that I’m passionate about and after that, get married – but not until I’m completely settled into my own life. I’m too independent to get caught up in the traditional way of doing things. Then life happened – and not just me – but to everyone. I lost my consulting gig, was unemployed for a year, then got a job in an industry I had no interest just to pay my bills, then got laid off and a year and a half later….I’m married. Yep, I did everything backwards according to my plan. That was hard for me to accept at first. I didn’t want to get married so young (I’m 30, and according to my family I was dried up goods) – instead I spent years fighting with my now-husband, who wouldn’t let me take the easy way out; I wanted to have a career and mucho bucks in the bank account – I was unemployable apparently; I wanted to figure out my passions once I had money – I realized that if I’m going to spend my life working, I’m going to do what I love dammit. So here I am, nowhere near where I thought I’d be at 30, and so much happier because of it. I’m finally learning to dance to the beat of my own drum (why walk if you can dance?), even if it’s taken me this long to figure that out. Like I said, my story is that of every woman.
2. How did you decide you wanted to be a stylist?
Call it accidental, call it out of necessity, but it all started when I started my beauty and fashion blog about a year ago. I was out of a job and was quite depressed because I wasn’t able to land ANY interviews, and I thought, ‘is this really all I’m worth?’ Obviously frustrated and not knowing how to help, my wonderful hubby said, “forget trying to get a job, just focus on what makes you happy right now”. Umm, what was that? I’ve spent most of my life trying to figure that out!! What I would soon realize though, is I spent most of my life doing the ‘right’ thing…going to school, getting into a corporate job, building the American dream, yada yada.
Well that didn’t pan out as the economy took a dive and I lost my ‘well-respected’ management consulting job along with all . Anyway, so what made me happy? Seems simple enough of a question, but it took a lot of soul searching. So I had to start with a more simple question: what did I spend most of my time doing? 1. Looking at what the stars were wearing and 2. Finding the best beauty products on the market.
After that, it become a progression…as I blogged about what I knew, people asked me to blog about fashion trends they wanted to know how to wear, then I offered my opinion about those fashion trends and eventually offered up what I truly believe looks good on each woman (based on body type and attitude). I figured, if I’m going to be paid peanuts to work for someone else and hate my job, why the hell not spend my time doing something I already love doing and build my own business? So…wahlah!!
3. How did you get into styling?
I’ve always been the one my friends come to for advice about how to accessorize their outfit for work that day or how to show off their assets (of course in a don’t-let-it-all-hang-out-sort-of-way) when we go out in Vegas. Also, it didn’t help that when I was unemployed I watched countless hours of “What Not To Wear” and “Say Yes To The Dress”, so I soon became the expert to everyone around me!
4. What kind of fashion style do you like to wear?
I’d like to think of my style as ever-evolving, although it mostly evolves with my mood each day! I’m always on the hunt for new styles, new things to add to my daily wardrobe that gives it a little extra funk, boldness or sexiness. Overall though, I’d like to think of myself as a laid-back tomboy by day, bombshell by night kinda girl. I like pushing the boundaries of people’s expectations when it comes to fashion
5. What kind of women do you style?
I style the everyday woman. But that doesn’t mean everyday as in boring. I have found that the women who work with me love their families, have little time for themselves, but want to be that better version of themselves they’ve always imagined. And let me tell you, that better version comes in ALL shapes and sizes, which is my specialty. Anyone can work with stick thin people. That’s no fun! I love, love, love women with curves! It’s what makes us all women! And I find the most flattering way to accentuate those curves in sexy, yet tasteful and everyday way.
6. How do you know how to find the right style for a particular client of yours?
For me, there are only two factors: body type and attitude! If she’s more confident about herself by the time we are done, I’ve done my job. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a stylist-zilla that will put my clients in what I think they will look good in even if they don’t like it. That’s self-defeating and I sure as hell won’t be happy until the client is freakin’ ecstatic about how she looks and feels about her new wardrobe. I don’t want anyone to be something they’re not and that starts with how a person presents him or herself to the world. Look, the more open communication I can have with my client (and this includes texts, emails, crazy 2am-drunk-dialing-voicemails), the better I will understand what the client wants, because like my youngest sister says, “Lisa, it’s not always about you!!!”
7. Where can people find you and follow you and your stylings?
You can find me at www.lisaatia.com and follow my blog that shows various examples of stylings I’ve done, my Instagram pics of everyday fashions that I may want to share, and if you’re lucky, my Facebook account too!
8. Who are your favorite designers?
If I could slave away and get coffee for Elie Saab for the rest of my life just to see how he works, I’d do it! He has this knack of making not only the most gorgeous dresses, but dresses that are flattering for every body type, and that’s what’s most important to making any sized woman look bootylicious!
Other designers I love: Zuhair Murad (can you tell I love glamour?), Michael Kors and Monique Lhuillier (I’m a sucker for gorgeous wedding gowns).
9. What tips/calls to action do you have for the readers: (you know 5 winter must have fashion accessories, or something like that lol) **Also if you are going to name the clothes or accessories try and get some photos of them and some info of where people will get them from.
The best way to create a new look for yourself on a budget: create a Pinterest inspiration board! I know it sounds cheesy but hear me out:
Create an inspiration board
Go through your closet and see what you have that resembles the pieces you see
Take pictures of outfit combinations you see
Write down and then go shopping for staple pieces you’re missing
If you’re panicking at this point, call me!
Thanks Lisa for taking the time to chat with us today! Peeps if you want to learn more about Lisa, you can visit her website here: http://lisaatia.com/
We end our month of video inspiration with one of the best storytellers of our time, Ken Burns, speaking about the importance of telling stories. For him, telling stories is about waking the dead.
For us, we love telling stories because it captures a moment in time, which allows people to go back and enjoy the past, to capture a person’s legacy, and to be remembered forever.
We couldn’t find a better way to wrap up our month of video inspiration because this film captures the essence of our love of telling stories.
