Happy Mothers Day - We have the perfect gift for Mom!
For us here at SchlickArt.com Mothers Day is one of the best times of the year. This is because Mothers Day brings one of our favorite shoots… The Mom and Daughter Pampering Day!
Having Moms and Daughters together in our studio just brings out all the love and happiness between them, all the great memories and all the years of friendship and bonding they hold together.
They tell stories about each other and their family, they playfully and affectionally tease one another about each others quirky ways. And most importantly they cheer each other on, giving each other love and support; and boost each others confidence like only a Mom and Daughter can.
This is why we created the Mother/Daughter Pampering Day especially for Mothers Day. Every Mom should have the opportunity to be pampered and feel beautiful. And every Mom should be able to spend quality time with her daughter/s and have a bonding girly day.
This is what the Mom and Daughter “Signature SchlickArt Luxury Pampering Day” was made for. It is an amazing girls day out with champaign and chocolates, a full hair and makeover, a gift bag of goodies, 4 photo/video set of your choice and full service editing. What more could a lady ask for! ;)
Especially for Mothers Day we here at SchlickArt.com have created the perfect gift, a gift you will not regret giving! See the gift card below…
The Gift Card below means that your Mom/Daughter Pampering Day is completely complimentary! And it includes: The full hair and makeover, champagne and chocolates, 4 photo/video sets of your choice that you will love and we will make you feel completely relaxed while we capture your story!
Plus, on top of all this you will have $100 to put towards packages if and when you are ready to make a purchase after your session is complete. Check it out…
This day sounds exactly like what you need this Mothers Day doesn’t it…
We have been wanting to share all these photos with you all for so long and today is the day.
This is the Kagy Family…
Kimberly Kagy (far left in the bottom photo) and I had spoken about her coming for one of our “Signature SchlickArt Luxury Pampering Photo/Video Sessions” a couple of times. And she expressed that she really wanted to enjoy it with her Mom Cynthia; and Sister Robyn.
In December Kimberly called and told me her Mom’s 70th birthday was at the end of January and her, and her sister thought it would be an amazing gift to surprise their Mom with this special day.
We took the two sisters out for a consultation and they absolutely loved the ideas and plans we had thought of for them. Then they expressed to us that they wanted to find a way to involve their Dad also… This we had thought of too and we suggested the three girls come and enjoy their day together with the champagne, chocolates and the full hair and makeover. Then as an extra surprise have their Dad show up for the last hour of the session with flowers for their Mom and he can join in the session for family photos.
It was a hit winner! Cynthia loved her 70th birthday surprise, loved her day with her girls and loved that her wonderful husband could join in the fun also.
When we got to show this beautiful family their images it was a real gift for us too. They all look so beautiful and happy together and it was a true honor to capture these moments.
To us there is no better way to spoil a Mom than a day like this.
So when Kathryn called us and said she wanted to come back to our studio for her maternity and newborn shoots we were over the moon. We previously photographed Kathryn this time last year when she came for a “Signature SchlickArt Luxury Pampering Day” with her sister-in-law. She was getting married and wanted a fun girls day out. Here is a photo from that session…
This time we planned and amazing and fun double session for Kathryn and husband Matt to come and capture a most memorable time in their lives. So we were all ready for the Maternity Session when gorgeous baby Isabeau Marie, decided she did not want to miss out on all the fun… she arrived 5 weeks early (before we could shoot the maternity session)!!!
These things always happen with best laid plans lol.
So a few days after Isabeau’s birth we decided to call Kathryn and Matt to see how they were doing. We told them about an open session date we had and asked them if they would like to turn their Maternity/Newborn sessions into a 2-in-1 Family/Newborn session. We knew Kathryn’s parents were in town visiting, so it was a perfect plan. They took the opportunity and as you can see from the images the whole day tuned out perfectly.
It’s funny how life happens sometimes!
Welcome to the world Isabeau Marie Simmons! xxx

As a makeup artist working in the film, television, photography and beauty industries, my job was to make the celebrities, actors, musicians and actors look their best.
After turning 50, I began to realize the challenges I had while doing my makeup. My skin was drier as well as noticing the fine lines and wrinkles that began to appear. With my experience, I knew how to correct the imperfections, use the right tools as well as the right products. A short time ago, it dawned on me that I continuously hear other women complaining and struggling with applying their makeup. Some give up and don’t even want to wear it! Because I love teaching, I decided to give birth to FABULOUS FACES OVER 50.
Not only do I want to teach women how to do their makeup properly, I am passionately committed to helping women feel empowered by deeply loving themselves while appreciating their own beauty.
Makeup lessons are scheduled for 1 1/2 hrs. You’ll leave with a face chart and feeling confident knowing how to do each of the techniques explained.
Special event makeup. This is the time to have your makeup professionally done for that special party, wedding or any other event having you look and feel your best. Professional head shot. It’s important to have your makeup professionally applied for photography. Every day makeup just doesn’t work!
This past Saturday Brian and I attended the 4th Annual Empowering HeARTS Gala and Fundraiser at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center at College of the Canyons.
The Gala honors 10 women who have gone above and beyond, helped others in their community and excelled in their own ways, often against adversity. To help honor these amazing women, each one of them is paired with an artist who creates a piece of artwork inspired by who the honorees are and what they do. For the second year in a row I have been one of the artists and this year I was paired with Leslie Carr, Director of Professional Development at College of the Canyons.
The art I created was inspired by all the wonderful work Leslie has done for College of the Canyons over the past 26 years and I wanted to pay homage to Leslie with a canvas for her to cherish forever. (See a digital copy of the canvas above.)
The Empowering HeARTs Gala exists to bring awareness and to help raise money for the Single Mothers Outreach Foundation, which provides emergency stabilization for families who are in real danger of losing everything. SMO provides families with donated food, emergency housing placement, donated clothing, free back-packs filled with school supplies and critical service resources for mothers struggling with basic living skills or mental illness.
This is such an amazing charity that we are so proud to be a part of and we had so much fun at the Gala catching up with old friends and new; and creating a great piece of artwork for Leslie. The Gala was a huge success. Thank you to DaAnne Smith (Director of Single Mothers Outreach) for allowing us to be a part of such a special occasion and we cannot wait to do it again next year!
The 10 women who were honored were:
Leslie Carr - Director of Professional Development at College of the Canyons
Margo Hudson - Founder of The Closet on Main
Heather Stewart - Academy program coordinator at Princess Cruises.
Jenny Ketchepaw - Vice president and corporate trainer of Community Bank
Michele Emerick Buttelman - Journalist
Anna Frutos-Sanchez - Public affairs region manager for Southern California Edison
Stacie Locke - Executive assistant to the CEO of Help Worldwide Inc
Marsha McLean - Santa Clarita City Councilwoman
Gloria Mercado-Fortine - Board member in the William S. Hart Union High School District
Rachel Rodriguez - Psychology graduate from California State University, Northridge
My name is Becky Sill, Realtor with Troop Real Estate, and I am a full time real estate coach in the Santa Clarita Valley. Coaching athletics and helping families find homes are two things I am passionate about so I have implemented my coaching philosophy with the way I help my clients. The best way I can help people is to find out what your needs are. I then create a custom “game plan” and coach my clients through the process. Same as no two athletes are alike, no two transactions are alike and no two buyer needs are alike. My ability to adapt to each client need is what makes my success unique.
Purchasing a home is a very exciting process and can also be overwhelming at times if you don’t understand how it all works. Today I would like to talk about the very first step which is to get pre-approved for a loan. This will enable you to search only for homes in your price range so your search is realistic. Here are a few tips to get you started. If you follow these simple tips, it will assure your loan process goes smoothly.
-Avoid making an Expensive Purchase
It’s best to avoid making major purchases like furniture, cars, appliances, electronic equipment, jewelry, or vacations until after the closing. Financing furniture with a credit card could jeopardize your credit worthiness during the time it means the most. Using cash to purchase big items can also create a problem because many banks take into consideration your cash reserve when approving your mortgage.
-Hold off on a new job until after closing
Lenders like to see a consistent job history. Generally, changing jobs will not affect your ability to qualify for a mortgage loan-especially if you are going to be making more money. But for some people, getting a new job during the loan approval process could raise some concern and affect your application.
-Keep your money in one place
As your lender reviews your loan package, you will be asked to provide bank statements for the last two or three months on your checking accounts, savings accounts, money market funds and other liquid assets. To eliminate potential fraud, most loans require a thorough paper trail to document the source of all funds. Changing banks or transferring money to another account could make it difficult for the lender to document your funds.
-Pay close attention to Lenders Requirements
You may have been pre-approved for the loan but your work with the lender is far from over. Your lender will need copies of your bank statements, W2s and other paperwork. It is up to you to get it to him or her as soon as possible. Failure to submit certain qualifying documents could cause you to lose your loan and the financing you need to buy your home.
Following these few simple tips will assure you a smooth transaction and put you in a strong position in the eyes of your lender. Competition in the housing market drops during the holidays as many people put their search on hold until spring! Less competition means more opportunity for you. Give me a call so we can start working on your game plan. I can be reached at 661-373-3875, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or you can learn more about me at www.beckysill.com. I will help you find a home to hang your beautiful photos from Schlick Art!

I walk into Costco to do my weekly food shopping of chicken breast, fish and spinach and I cant believe that I’m looking at Christmas lights and blow up Santa Claus lawn decoration already.. This year is really flying by. And the holiday that starts the ball rolling for me is always Halloween.
Spooky decorations, costumes, makeup.. and CANDY. Not to mention cookies, brownies, pies just to name a few things that will be tempting me next week as Halloween rolls up on me. So, what can you do to avoid going down a sugary, and sadly fattening path? Here are a few tips I follow both for me and my kids to celebrate but stay on track:
(Photo Courtesy of David Schlick) For me: 1. Do enjoy a piece of candy, be smart about your choices. For example, if you like chocolate is there a dark chocolate alternative? Don’t over indulge, one piece is enough. 2. Do bake your favorite cookies/brownies/pie, don’t eat the whole thing yourself, set a limit to have one a day.. maybe one a week? Bake responsibly, can you use a sugar substitute? Research some healthier recipes to try. 3. Do attend Halloween parties, do eat your planned meal before going. Don’t go to a party hungry, you’ll end up eating all the chips and drinking the nacho cheese. 4. Do keep a picture that reminds you what your goals are on the fridge, on the pantry door, taped on the candy bag to keep you on track. I still have a picture of myself that I never want to look like again on the freezer door of my fridge so that I see it when I go to reach for ice cream. 5. Get your spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, roommate, family involved. Give them the right to tell you NO.
For kids: 1. Plan out your trick or treating path - Do go out and have fun, don’t go for 3 hours and come home with enough candy to feed a small village. 2. Put the candy away, allow your kids to have one to two pieces per day. Pack it in their lunch as their treat and avoid giving it to them in the evenings. 3. Just say no. Just because they got it while out trick or treating doesn’t mean they have to eat it. Sort through and keep only “approved” treats.
And lastly, a great coach once told me “Strong will is like a muscle, the more you work it, the better it gets.” So exercise your will power… like I do every time I come to Costco and all the nice little old ladies offer me snacks while I go and pick up chicken breast, fish and spinach.
Thanks Joy for a great new guest blog post, we can’t wait to read the next one! :)
